I was born in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and we moved to London when I was 5. Basically, I grew up in the UK and went to school (University College School) and university (Cambridge) there. Some of my closest friends are from school and university – they are also some of the funniest people I know. Some of them, at least. You know who you are.

My Goldman career started in London after I qualified as a Chartered Accountant (along with hordes of other graduates at that time). My time at Goldman shaped a lot of my professional skills. I never worked at any other Investment Bank and so I could not make any comparisons based on personal experience. What I did say then was that the people I worked with a Goldman were often really smart and definitely driven. I learnt a ton from my time there.

During my time at Goldman I moved to New York for a two or three year assignment, which turned into 23 years and counting. My three kids were all born here and are now teenagers. It is a delight to see them each growing to be their own person.

I like this picture of me with a friend’s dog.
